CECILIE SKOG
Cecilie Skog’s exploits as a mountaineer and polar explorer are unparalleled. It all boils down to her love of nature. She finds peace and quiet travelling across “The Devil’s Dance Floor” through pack ice and holes in the ice en route to the North Pole.
She has previously worked as a mountain guide in the mountains in Sunnmøre, a glacier guide in Briksdalen and a glacier instructor for The Norwegian Trekking Association (DNT).
She is a nurse by profession, but has a merit list that includes both the “The Three Poles”, i.e. the North Pole, the South Pole and Mt. Everest, and “The Seven Summits”, i.e. the tallest mountain on each continent. No other woman has done the same thing.
In 2010, Cecilie crossed Antarctica together with Ryan Waters. They had no supplies delivered during the trip and used no dogs or ski sails to get there. This had never been done before.
In additions to all the expeditions in which she is recognised as “the first” or “the only”, she always has a trip up her sleeve. Whether that trip involves crossing the inland ice of Greenland, travelling to the Shetlands in a Viking boat or hiking in the forest outside town.
